In 1997, aged just 23 years, and after 3 years playing for the Blackcaps, Stephen Fleming became New Zealand’s youngest ever captain.

The tall, elegant left-handed batsman has been New Zealand’s most successful captain and has presided over one of the more fulfilling periods of cricket for the New Zealand Blackcaps. His place is assured as one of New Zealand’s cricket legends.

Stephen has been crucial in the New Zealand Cricket mix, valued for his on-field presence and demeanour and his skill and the strength of his leadership that is widely acknowledged by his teammates and others.

Fleming is a thoughtful and resourceful captain who works well with his bowlers and continually considers new ideas - whether innovative field placements, different perspectives, or even lessons taken from other sports.

Throughout his career, Stephen has become one of the finest slip fielders in the country and leads the Blackcaps all time list for Test catches by a fielder.

Stephen recently announced his retirement as One Day International captain after New Zealand’s elimination from the 2007 World Cup. He continues in his role as New Zealand’s Test Captain and continues to play in both One Day International and Test matches.

Stephen resides in Wellington, New Zealand with his wife Kelly and daughter Tayla.
