Mike Hussy

Mike Hussey, or ‘Mr Cricket’ as he is known in cricketing circles has cemented himself as one of Australian Cricket’s most valuable and popular players. Having achieved all of this in such a short period of time Mike is conscious that hard work is the only thing that will keep him there.

Mike is a versatile Cricketer who started his career as an opener but has since solidified a middle order position. He is capable of adapting his game to suit the situation, as he is equally at home batting with the tail as he is with a recognised batsman. Mike has also quickly developed a reputation as an agile fieldsman having taken a number of ‘classic catches’.

Mike’s first opportunity in the Australian Test team came in the 2005 / 06 series against the West Indies and from here he has never looked back. Mike scored three centuries in his first five Test matches and has since become the fastest player in world cricket to reach 1,000 Test runs.

Far from being an overnight success Mike has spent many years developing a formidable first class record. Throughout his career to date he has amassed in excess of 16,500 first class runs for WA and in English County Cricket. Mike is one of only three players to score three triple centuries in County Cricket history.

He made his ODI debut in February 2004 playing in his home state of WA and from there was again quick to impress players and fans alike as he moved to cement his position in the limited overs team.

An amazing fact that points to the talent Mike has with the bat is that following his ODI debut for Australia he played 29 matches before his average dropped below 100 runs per innings. Mike currently enjoys an average of over 79* for Test and over 58* in ODI forms of the game.

Mike has made a massive impression on the international cricket scene after winning the One Day International Player of the Year at the Alan Border Medal night in February 2006 and One Day International Player of the Year at the ICC Awards in November 2006.

Mike lives in Perth, Western Australia, is married to Amy and has three young children, Jasmin, William and Molly.
